Bamboos are some of the most easily recognisable of all garden plants, all having vertical, architectural stems, also known as culms, and long, narrow leaves that look wonderful as they sway in the breeze, creating a gentle rustling sound. There are over 1,500 identified species of Bamboo, some just a few centimetres tall, with the largest, Dendrocalamus sinicus growing to and incredible 40m (130ft) tall with culms 20cm (1ft) in diameter, quite something when you remember that Bamboo is actually a grass!
